Cathedral of St. James in Šibenik is one of the pearls of Croatian architecture. Since 2000, the cathedral has been on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The cathedral was built over 100 years in the 15th to the 16th century. Its construction was done by the most famous Croatian and Venetian constructors like Juraj Dalmatinac. The cathedral was constructed in several different styles such as the Gothic style and the Tuscan renaissance. 38 meters high cathedral of St. Jacob was built as a basilica with a beautiful stone dome at the top. The cathedral is specific because it was built only of stone without the use of bonding plaster and wooden structural elements. It has numerous stone ornaments, sculptures, ornamented vaults, etc. During the winter, the cathedral is open to visitors every day from 8:30 to 12:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00. During the summer it is opened every day from 08:30 to 20:00. Entrance fee is 30 kunas (about 4 euros).

Medieval St. Michael’s fortress is located in Šibenik, on a steep hill above the old town. From the attractive historic center of the city, small cozy streets are leading to the fortress. The fortress was named after the church of St. Michael which used to be inside the fortress.
